TSB is one of the most modern and advanced rigs, which also has the capacity to drill at the edge of the ice. The rig was fully operational during the installation.
Because the installation had to be performed offshore, during operations, the right partner for the installation was of vital importance for Transocean.
Westcon Power & Automation AS (WPA) was chosen as the installation-partner and supplier of both white and black disciplines to Transocean.
The project included converting to DP3 closed bus, with an additional 5,6 MW hybrid power. The thrusters can work independently from the generators and the power distribution provides the possibility for optimized performance from the generators, related to what’s needed. All this whilst maintaining DP demands, considering the immediate backup power available.
In October of 2019, WPA could, together with Transocean and AKA, announce that the world’s first hybrid system was installed on a semi-submersible rig.
This is one of Transocean’s main milestones. See more on Transocean’s website, under ‘2010’. AKA has also highlighted this project with two articles.
